Visit of the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Team to Ukraine (12/10/2009)
Senior officers from the Overseas Tracker Team, Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP) visited Ukraine between 5 and 8 October.
CEOP is a UK Law Enforcement Agency currently affiliated to the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA). The Centre tackles sexual offending against children and is committed to protecting children from harm. To protect children everywhere, CEOP have set up the Overseas Tracker Team to disrupt the activities of UK nationals who travel to abuse children.
The aim of the visit was to establish working relationships with partners in Ukraine for the future and lay grounds for further joint activities. A comprehensive programme of briefings from Ukrainian law enforcement agencies and NGOs has been organised. CEOP officers also took part in the law enforcement conference on “Child Pornography on the Internet” (held under the Swedish Presidency in the EU).
During the visit CEOP officers delivered series of presentations about the work of their team, methods, case studies including many areas of overlap between Ukrainian and other European partners. A dialogue was launched with partners in Ukraine inviting to share ideas, best practice and experience. This provided CEOP with local knowledge regarding the difficult issues facing law enforcement in Ukraine and will further the co-operation between ‘partners’ committed to reducing the harm caused to children from sexual exploitation.
