Visit of the UK NATO Permanent Representative to Ukraine (08/10/2009)

UK Permanent Representative to NATO Sir Stewart Eldon will be visiting Ukraine from 8 till 9 October. The aim of the visit is to conduct discussions about Ukraine's relations with NATO, and NATO's assistance to the process of democratic reform in Ukraine.

While in Ukraine, Sir Stewart will be meeting the Deputy Foreign Minister Konstantin Yeliseyev, First Deputy Secretary of National Security and Defence Council Stepan Havrysh, Chair of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security and Defence Anatoliy Hrytsenko. He will also deliver a speech at the 55th Atlantic Treaty Association General Assembly in Kyiv and take part in the follow-up discussion.

Sir Stewart said, “I am delighted to be in Ukraine again. It is clear that the UK and Ukraine have a strategic relationship and share many common European values. This is particularly true in relation to Ukraine's democratic reform agenda. The UK is working hard with NATO partners to promote further democratisation, help fight corruption, build the rule of law and improve Ukraine's judicial system. These are reforms will make a real difference to the day-to-day lives of ordinary Ukrainians.
